Taking a Nicaragua vacation is a great way to get away from
it all and experience real life in Central America. Despite the
fact that Nicaragua tourism is booming, it is still the least
visited country in the region. This allows tourists to better
get to know the geography and the people of Nicaragua. Although
Costa Rica, Nicaragua’s southern neighbor, is beautiful
it has become a bit of a tourist trap lately.
Most people who go on a Nicaragua vacation are from the United
States, Europe, Central or South America. Granada, a colonial
city on the shores of Lake Nicaragua is the most popular tourist
destination. Other popular cities include Managua, Leon, Masaya
and Rivas. The San Juan River, San Juan del Sur, Mombacho Volcano
and the Corn Islands also draw people in from around the world.
A different type of Nicaragua vacation is quickly gaining in
popularity. Agritourism is a vacation where people visit farms
for fun. Visitors often stay right on the farm and even help with
chores. Tourists pick fruits and vegetables, care for livestock
and sample products throughout their stay. Agritourism is becoming
a large part of the global tourism industry.
