Nicaragua,
Travel, and Vacation
The nation of Nicaragua boasts a geographically diverse
and gorgeous natural landscape. Its people are kind, warm and proud
of their unique heritage. The culture draws from several different parts
of the globe and is rife with music, folklore and religious tradition.
Unfortunately, most people know nothing of this side of the country.
Nicaragua has received a bad rap because of its turbulent past. Nicaragualand.com
is packed with information on the real “land of lakes and volcanoes”.
The facts provided by this site will allow readers to form their own
opinions of the least densely populated and least understood nation
in Central America.
Beginning in the 1960s and through the 1980s Nicaragua was considered
a savage, war-torn land to be avoided. Much of its reputation was deserved
as the country had a history of political unrest. Civil war broke out
around the end of the 1970s. Nicaraguan rebels known as Contras were
determined to take power from the Sandinistas. Americans may remember
this as the conflict during which the U.S. government illegally sold
weapons to Iran and used the profits to fund Contra operations.
Back then taking a Nicaragua vacation was last on the list of things
to do for most folks. Fortunately, things have changed and Nicaragua
travel is on the rise. A stable government is in place (a democratic
republic just like the U.S.), and there is virtually no threat that
fighting will resume. The peaceful, fun-loving Nicaragua culture of
old has returned and tourism is booming.
Over the last ten years the industry has grown by more than 70%. Income
generated by tourism has increased by 300%. The Nicaragua real estate
market is also on the rise. The nation contains three major lakes (including
Lake Nicaragua, the largest lake in Central America) and dozens of smaller
ones as well as several large rivers. The Pacific Ocean forms the western
border and the Caribbean Sea lies to the east. So, there is no shortage
of beachfront property to be had.
Nicaragua beach hotels are becoming a hot commodity. Other hotels Nicaragua
has to offer are in the capitol city Managua, the most popular tourist
destination, Granada and the cultural hot spot, Leon. There are a number
of eco-lodges throughout Nicaragua as well. Ecotourism is becoming a
popular form of vacationing in which extra attention is paid to the
environment including surrounding natural habitats. Often, eco-tourists
will do something to give back to the community in which they are guests.
It has much in common with agri-tourism, another increasingly fashionable
type of travel. Agri-tourists spend their vacation, or at least much
of living on a farm, often helping out with day-to-day operations.
All this talk of tourism and real estate may lead some to believe that
this site is about to include a sales pitch. Don’t worry it’s
not going to happen. Nicaragualand.com is strictly an informational
site designed to dispel myths and provide new insight into this beautiful
nation.
